ABOUT ME
Mvmnt Haus is the culmination of my 20+ years of experience in the Pilates & wellness industry.
My journey began as a high level competitive athlete, forced out due to career-ending injuries. Though devastating at the time, this lead me down a different life path, toward a reformer.
Pilates came into play during my last year of high school when my mother suggested I join her for a session.
Instant love affair.
My instructor recognized my passion and proposed I pursue a certification, which I concluded was a savvy employment opportunity while studying.
I’m not a gal that likes to half ass anything. I spent my 20s swallowing up every certification and continuing education program available. Despite stepping away from my intended career choices, I was able to blend my educational background in neurobiology into my life’s new mission: Pilates and movement education.
As I continued gravitating toward my newfound love, I eventually became a master educator, specializing in rehabilitative programming and sport-specific conditioning. Teaching the next generation of trainers was fulfilling, until my yearning to get back to client training became too loud. Ultimately, I chose to drop that rope to run a west coast studio for years before my family brought me to my new home here in CNY.
WHAT MAKES MVMNT HAUS DIFFERENT
Each session is an intensive workshop.
Yes, we’re working toward a toned aesthetic, but that is secondary to my pursuit of you developing a deeper understanding of self. If you don’t understand “why” and “how” your body feels and moves the way it does, how can you truly resolve the core issues?
I view the body as a system of light switches. Some areas are “turned on,” overused muscles that develop compensation patterns. Others are “turned off,” underused muscles that become complacent and rigid, partly as a protective mechanism from the brain and nervous system not trusting its function.
My cues revolve around questions. I use this approach to encourage you to internalize the question and find answers for yourself. It’s empowering. It’s productive. It’s reinforcing the mind-body connection.
I start each class by asking: “How does your body feel today?” It's a simple question, but often we are so disconnected from our bodies, let alone from how our body moves in space, that we resign ourselves to simply getting through each day.
Mvmnt Haus provides a safe space for you to examine whether physical and emotional traumas continue to affect your overall well being. We are often plagued with chronic pain when the nervous system remains stuck in fight, flight, or freeze, all while the musculoskeletal system perpetuates dysfunctional patterns. Your brain needs to trust your body to create the harmony necessary for true progress to occur.
Informed movement is the ultimate goal. I invite you to get curious. I challenge you to be brave and revise your relationship with your body. Each experience in the studio is an opportunity to gain perspective, determine what serves you, and transform into the best version of you.
TELL ME MORE ABOUT THE STUDIO & CLASS STRUCTURE
Studio class descriptions often prescribe a level of beginner, intermediate, and advanced. I purposely lean away from such assignments, as I do not want to define your experience in these terms. To me, new clients can do incredibly hard movements and seasoned vets can fine tune the fundamentals.
Instead I have three concepts: breathe, move, thrive. Each concept has a reformer and mat class option. It all circles back to your ability to evaluate how your mind-body connection is serving you. First we “breathe” and learn how to calm acute and chronic dysfunctions. Then we “move” once the brain feels safe to allow for the body to exist and move healthily in space. Finally we “thrive”, where we ramp up to challenge the existing connections. Difficulty level does not drive class categorization, it’s the depth of the understanding of your own body.
Show up exactly as you are. You may laugh. You may cry. You may gain a new friend in a like-minded community member. Whatever your jam is, I hope you find your home with Mvmnt Haus.
Breathe. Move. Thrive.
Love, Em
